Why are end grain cutting boards better?

An end-grain cutting board has the benefits of being both attractive and easy on your knives. This cutting board construction creates a distinctive looking checkerboard pattern. An end-grain board also has a very fibrous cutting surface, so a knife's edge is likely to sink into the wood fibers while you are cutting. On End Grain, you're actually cutting between the wood fibers, keeping the knife sharper longer and making it easier to clean and thus more sanitary.

All cutting boards are sealed with a 2 step process - 1st being a quick soak in food grade mineral oil - This is then wiped into the pores of the wood and allowed to dry for a day. 2nd step is a generous coating of a food grade cutting board wax and oil mixture. (To maintain the life and look of the cutting board, it is recommended to apply a cutting board wax around every 4 weeks.
